Delhi Government Proposes Road Tax Waiver for Affordable Electric Vehicles: Key Highlights and Stakeholder Feedback

Delhi government has put forth a proposal to waive road tax for affordable electric vehicles. The draft EV policy suggests that electric cars priced at Rs 30 lakh or below will enjoy a complete exemption on road tax and registration fees until March 31, 2030. However, electric vehicles priced above Rs 30 lakh will not benefit from any exemptions. Additionally, the government has recommended a 50% exemption for strong-hybrid vehicles. Starting from January 1, 2027, only electric 3-wheelers will be allowed for new registrations. Stakeholders and the public are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft policy within the next 30 days.
