Colombian Authorities Approve Plan to Cull Pablo Escobar's Hippos Threatening Local Ecosystem

Colombian authorities have approved a plan to eliminate numerous hippos that are causing problems in a lush and humid area in the central part of the country. The hippos, originally brought to Colombia by drug lord Pablo Escobar, are now posing a threat to local residents and disrupting the ecosystem.
Environment Minister Irene Vélez announced the decision, citing the failure of previous attempts to control the hippo population through methods such as sterilization or relocation to zoos. The plan is expected to target up to 80 hippos, although a specific timeline for the culling operation has not been disclosed.
