From New York to St. Louis: Cade Winquest's Return to the Cardinals

Cade Winquest has completed a unique journey from St. Louis to New York and back as he has been returned to the Cardinals after the Yankees designated him for assignment. The Yankees had selected Winquest in the Rule 5 Draft last December, but he never got the chance to play for the team. This move was surprising as the Yankees hadn't made a Rule 5 selection in over a decade, indicating they saw potential in Winquest to bolster their bullpen.

However, the fit between Winquest and the Yankees was not ideal from the beginning. The Yankees, focused on competing for a pennant, couldn't afford to have long-term projects like Winquest taking up a roster spot. General Manager Brian Cashman acknowledged the difficulty of balancing development and competition, stating that it was challenging to find playing time for Winquest to grow while also trying to win games.

Now, Winquest has been assigned to the Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate, where he will continue to hone his skills in the hopes of making his major league debut. His time in New York was limited to warming up in a few games without actually getting the opportunity to pitch. Hopefully, the change of scenery in St. Louis will provide Winquest with the chance to showcase his talent and earn a spot in the big leagues.
