Grandgear: Takashi Yamazaki's Highly Anticipated Film Set for February 2028 Release

Takashi Yamazaki's highly anticipated film, Grandgear, finally has a release date. Sony Pictures announced at CinemaCon that the movie, Yamazaki's first English-language project, will hit theaters on February 18, 2028. The collaboration between Yamazaki and producer J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot sparked a fierce bidding war after the success of Yamazaki's previous film, Godzilla Minus One, which grossed $113 million globally on a $15 million budget and won an Academy Award for best special effects.
Following the success of Godzilla Minus One, Yamazaki has another film in the pipeline, Godzilla Minus Zero, set to be released in Japan on November 3. The film will also have a U.S. release through GKids. Yamazaki expressed his gratitude during his Oscars speech for the recognition his work has received, highlighting the journey from feeling like an outsider in Hollywood to being embraced as an equal by his peers.
Grandgear is a project close to Yamazaki's heart, as he takes on the roles of writer and director for the film. The collaboration with Abrams and Bad Robot's Glen Zipper promises an exciting cinematic experience for audiences. Stay tuned for more updates on Grandgear as the release date approaches.
