Bobby Bowden's Legacy Honored: Tallahassee International Airport Renamed in Tribute

The Florida State Seminoles football program received a significant honor with the announcement that Tallahassee International Airport will be renamed "Bobby Bowden International Airport." This decision was made official in mid-March through bill SB 628, which was amended by former Seminole football player and current Florida State Senator Corey Simon. Governor Ron DeSantis expressed his excitement about the renaming, highlighting the impact it will have on fans, especially those traveling for games between Florida and Florida State.

Bobby Bowden, a college football legend, coached the Seminoles for 34 seasons, achieving a remarkable 316-97-4 record and securing two National Championships. His tenure saw the Seminoles consistently ranked in the top 10 between 1979 and 2000, showcasing his coaching prowess and leadership. Bowden retired in 2009 as the second-winningest college football coach in history with 346 total wins. Tragically, he passed away on August 8th, 2021, at the age of 91 after battling pancreatic cancer.

In addition to the airport renaming, Bobby Bowden has been honored with two collegiate football fields bearing his name: "Bobby Bowden Field" at Doak S. Campbell Stadium and at Pete Hanna Stadium at Samford University. These tributes recognize his significant contributions to the sport and his lasting impact on the football community. The legacy of Coach Bowden continues to be celebrated through these meaningful gestures and acknowledgments.
