Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 Inductees: A Celebration of Music Legends

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its latest inductees, including Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, Joy Division/New Order, Wu-Tang Clan, and Luther Vandross. These artists were selected by a panel of over 1,200 industry professionals and musicians. Phil Collins, known for hits like "In the Air Tonight," is being honored for his solo work, while Sade is recognized for her soul-jazz vocals. Wu-Tang Clan, Iron Maiden, and Luther Vandross are also among the inductees this year.
Iron Maiden, a British heavy metal band, and Luther Vandross, a soul singer, have left a lasting impact on the music industry. Joy Division and New Order, both from Manchester, England, are being recognized for their contributions to post-punk music. Oasis, the iconic Britpop band, is also being honored. Billy Idol, known for his punky pop hits, is another inductee this year.
The induction ceremony will take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a TV broadcast scheduled for December on ABC and Disney+. The following year, the ceremony will return to Cleveland, the hall's home. Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, and other artists were nominated but did not make the cut this year.
In addition to the performer category, the hall also recognizes inductees in special committee categories, including early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. This year's honorees include Queen Latifah, Fela Kuti, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons. The musical excellence category will honor Linda Creed and producers Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin. Ed Sullivan, the legendary TV host, will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award for his contributions to music and breaking racial barriers in entertainment.
Last year's inductees included Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and others.
