Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 Inductees: Celebrating Music Legends
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its latest inductees, including Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, Joy Division/New Order, Wu-Tang Clan, and Luther Vandross. These artists were selected by a panel of over 1,200 industry professionals and musicians. Phil Collins, known for hits like "In the Air Tonight," is already a member of the hall as part of Genesis. Sade, Wu-Tang Clan, and Iron Maiden have also made significant contributions to the music industry.
Iron Maiden, a British heavy metal band, has been nominated twice before and is recognized for iconic albums like "The Number of the Beast." Luther Vandross, a soulful vocalist, sold over 25 million albums and inspired artists like Kendrick Lamar and SZA. The induction ceremony will take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a TV broadcast scheduled for December on ABC and Disney+.
The hall will also honor post-punk pioneers Joy Division and New Order, as well as Britpop legends Oasis. Billy Idol, known for his punk-infused pop hits, will also be inducted. The ceremony will return to Cleveland next year. Other nominees who did not make the cut this year include Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, and Shakira.
In addition to the performer category, the hall recognizes inductees in special committee categories like early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. This year, Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, MC Lyte, Gram Parsons, Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, Rick Rubin, and Ed Sullivan will be honored for their contributions to music.
