Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2022 Inductees: Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Queen Latifah, and More!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its latest inductees, including Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, and Joy Division/New Order. Wu-Tang Clan and Luther Vandross are also among the new inductees. Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they are eligible for induction. The nominees were selected by a panel of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals.
Phil Collins, known for hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” is being inducted for his solo work, in addition to his previous induction as a member of Genesis. Sade, Wu-Tang Clan, and Iron Maiden are also being recognized for their contributions to music. Luther Vandross, who passed away in 2005, will be honored for his soulful music that inspired artists like Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
The induction ceremony will take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a TV broadcast scheduled for December on ABC and Disney+. The following year, the ceremony will return to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's home in Cleveland. Other nominees this year included Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition, and Shakira.
In addition to the performer category, inductees can also be recognized under special committee categories such as early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. This year, Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons will receive the early influence award. The musical excellence category will honor Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin. The Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award will be given posthumously to Ed Sullivan for his groundbreaking contributions to music and entertainment.
