Former Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud Diagnosed with Brain Cancer, Withdraws from University of Michigan Presidency

Former Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud revealed on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with brain cancer, leading to his withdrawal from becoming the President of the University of Michigan. Syverud sought medical attention after feeling unwell in early April and was diagnosed with brain cancer following assessments by specialists at the University of Michigan. He is currently undergoing treatment at the university. The University of Michigan Board of Regents expressed their support for Syverud, stating that he will now serve as a professor of law at the university's law school and as a special advisor to the board. Syracuse University Chancellor-elect Michael Haynie is scheduled to assume his new role on May 11, succeeding Syverud. Haynie, who previously held positions at the university, will be the 13th chancellor of Syracuse University.
