Diaz, who took over in 2023, has guided Duke to back-to-back nine-win seasons and secured the program's first outright conference title since 1962 with a victory over Virginia in the ACC championship game. The Blue Devils capped off their successful season with a win in the Sun Bowl, marking the third time in program history that Duke has won both the ACC championship and a bowl game in the same season. Diaz, a Miami native and Florida State graduate, previously served as the head coach at Miami from 2019-2021, where he achieved a 21-15 record and made three bowl appearances.
