Introducing Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the New BBC Sci-Fi Drama 'Sutherland': A Thrilling Space Adventure Set in Scotland

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, known for her role in Loki, is set to star in a new BBC sci-fi drama called Sutherland. The show is set in a near future in the far north of Scotland and follows Mirren, played by Mbatha-Raw, who is the flight director at Paravel Space Hub for the UK's first crewed mission to space. However, shortly after the launch, mysterious events threaten to derail the mission. The series is timely, coinciding with the recent return of the Artemis II rocket from the moon and the upcoming launch of the Soviet space drama Star City on Apple TV.

Produced by World Productions, the sci-fi drama Sutherland is created by James Smythe, known for All Her Fault. The series is a collaboration between World Productions and ITV Studios for international distribution. Commissioned by BBC Drama and BBC Scotland, Sutherland is written by Smythe, Laura Grace, Tom Mair, and Helen Kingston, with direction by Chloƫ Wicks and Patrick Harkins. Clare Kerr serves as the producer, with executive producers including Jake Lushington, Simon Heath, George Aza-Selinger, Gaynor Holmes, and Gavin Smith. The series is supported by Screen Scotland, and filming is scheduled to take place in Scotland later this year, with additional casting announcements to follow.
