Starr Vegas: The Future Hub for Professional Sports in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is in the midst of a bidding process for an NBA expansion team, with Starr Vegas emerging as a potential new home for sports and entertainment. Starr Vegas, envisioned as an "ecosystem" for various activities, is set to be located at the southern edge of the Las Vegas valley, offering world-class facilities for soccer, basketball, concerts, combat sports, and more. The project, spearheaded by Chuck Haifley, CEO of Starr Vegas Development, Inc., aims to establish itself as the future hub for professional sports in Las Vegas, covering 63 acres of land near S. Las Vegas Boulevard.
The development group has secured $6 billion in funding, with Lou Weisbach, CEO of In Tickets We Trust, leading the financial backing. Larry Canarelli and K. Roohani, both with extensive experience in Southern Nevada land ownership, are also part of the partnership group. The total project cost is estimated at $10 billion, with plans to create a sports and entertainment destination away from the bustling Las Vegas Strip. The company is open to discussions with potential NBA and MLS clubs, as well as existing Las Vegas franchises looking for a new venue.
Haifley and his partners are looking to address the need for a dedicated sports and entertainment complex in southern Clark County, away from the Strip's congestion. The project envisions the addition of a Brightline West high-speed rail hub and a supplementary airport in the area, anticipating a transformation in the region in the coming years. While other proposals are also in the works, including Mayor Shelley Berkley's downtown pitch and Bill Foley's suggestion to renovate the T-Mobile Arena, the NBA's Board of Governors has expressed interest in exploring expansion to Las Vegas and Seattle.
Following the unanimous vote by the NBA's Board of Governors to consider expansion, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo's office expressed support for working with the NBA and potential ownership groups to bring a team to Las Vegas. The city is abuzz with anticipation for the possibility of welcoming a new NBA team, with various proposals and plans in the pipeline. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving sports landscape in Las Vegas.
