Transforming Gibbs High School Athletic Facilities: A $1.2 Million Grant from the Morgan Wallen Foundation

Knox County Commission is set to review documents outlining a $1.2 million grant from the Morgan Wallen Foundation for the enhancement of athletic facilities at Gibbs High School. The grant aims to transform the existing baseball field into a modern, multi-use athletic field and construct a softball hitting and pitching facility on the school campus. The primary focus of the grant is to install turf on the baseball field and build the hitting/pitching facility, with construction slated to commence after the 2025-26 school year. The estimated cost for adding turf to the field is approximately $1,098,200, while the pitching facility is expected to cost $305,667, totaling just over $1.4 million for the upgrade project. The grant agreement was approved by the Knox County Board of Education during a meeting on March 5.
