Unveiling Gehry: A Tribute to the Architect's Sentimental Sculptures

Discover a different side of the late visionary architect Frank Gehry at the upcoming exhibition at Gagosian Beverly Hills. The exhibition, curated by those who worked closely with Gehry, will showcase his sentimental sculptures, including animal-themed pieces like a stainless steel bear figure. Scheduled to open on May 14 and run through June 27, the show is a tribute to Gehry's artistic practice rather than his architectural designs, offering a unique perspective on his work.

The exhibition will feature the first public screening of Gehry's entry in Gagosian Premieres, a series of videos highlighting new art exhibitions. By focusing on Gehry's sculptures and artistic process, the show aims to provide a space for people, especially those who knew Gehry well, to come together and remember the late architect. The exhibition was curated by Deborah McLeod and Meaghan Lloyd, with Gehry's studio designing the show in collaboration with his family.

A highlight of the exhibition is the artist proof of "Bear with Us" (2014), a stainless steel sculpture with a crumpled appearance that many interpret as Gehry's self-portrait. Other animal-themed sculptures, such as a glowing black crocodile and papier-mâché snake lamps, will also be on display. The exhibition will include a series of ink, watercolor, and acrylic works on paper that capture the energetic motion of fish in Gehry's signature style.

While Gehry's architectural designs left a lasting impact on Los Angeles, his art was a personal gift to himself. The exhibition offers a glimpse into Gehry's artistic practice and showcases his evolution as a sculptor. A portion of the artworks will be available for purchase, allowing visitors to bring a piece of Gehry's legacy home with them. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the artistry of Frank Gehry in a new light at Gagosian Beverly Hills.
