GM Super Cruise Integrated Brake Assist Issue: Latest Updates and Repair Information
If you own a GM vehicle with Super Cruise and have noticed that the automatic braking is too sensitive, there is a known issue with the Integrated Brake Assist system. GM issued a technical service bulletin in November 2025 to address the problem, which they referred to as 'Unwanted Integrated Brake Assist.'
Several models are impacted by this issue, including Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, and Vistiq, as well as Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
Although the service bulletin was issued several months ago, GM has recently announced that the fix for the sensitive brake assist has been temporarily suspended for certain vehicles. The reason for this hold has not been disclosed, and there is no timeline for when the repairs will resume.
It is important to note that the suspension of fixes applies to 2026 model-year vehicles with Super Cruise, such as the Cadillac CT5, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Silverado EV, and GMC Sierra EV. Owners of older models can still visit their local dealer to have the service performed. The full-size SUVs mentioned earlier are not affected by the suspension.
According to the service bulletin, the underlying cause of the issue is a software glitch that causes the system to malfunction, resulting in aggressive brake assist intervention and potentially triggering phantom-braking incidents that could lead to accidents.
The repair process is expected to take approximately one hour of labor, during which the system will be reprogrammed to adjust its sensitivity and prevent further unwanted brake assist activations. If your Super Cruise-equipped vehicle is not subject to the temporary suspension of repairs, it is advisable to schedule the reprogramming service promptly to ensure your safety on the road.
