Remembering Prince: Celebrating His Legacy in Minnesota

Minnesota is honoring the 10th anniversary of Prince's passing with various events and celebrations throughout the state. Paisley Park, Prince's home and memorial, was lit up in purple to commemorate the occasion. In June, a five-day event in the Twin Cities will feature concerts, panels, and tours to honor the musical legend. A block party and sing-along near the iconic Prince mural by First Avenue in downtown Minneapolis will also be part of the festivities. Prince's manager and friend, Londell McMillan, expressed the importance of celebrating Prince's legacy and music.

Prince passed away at the age of 57 in 2016 due to an accidental fentanyl overdose. Since his death, efforts have been made to preserve and celebrate his artistic contributions. Paisley Park, where Prince created much of his music, has been transformed into a museum and event space for fans to experience his legacy. Additionally, a section of Highway 5 in Chanhassen has been renamed as the "Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway" in honor of the late musician.
