JasonTheWeen Discusses Departure from FaZe Clan: A Look Back and Moving Forward
In a recent interview with Complex News, Twitch streamer JasonTheWeen, also known as Jason Thanh Nguyen, discussed the departure of several FaZe Clan members last year. Jason was part of the group of creators who announced their exit from FaZe Clan in December, along with other members like Adapt, Lacy, Silky, StableRonaldo, Apex, Swagg, YourRAGE, Kaysan, and Rug. He expressed feelings of relief, confusion, and sorrow when he made the decision to leave the organization, citing disagreements on the corporate side of things as a factor in the departure.
Jason mentioned that PlaqueBoyMax had left FaZe Clan before the mass exodus, indicating that his departure may have foreshadowed the events that followed. The decision for the group to leave FaZe Clan was a collective one, driven by concerns about the organization's future. Jason hinted at underlying business issues that he couldn't elaborate on publicly, leading to the group's unanimous decision to part ways with FaZe Clan.
Following reports from Bloomberg in December, FaZe Clan investor HardScope's CEO, Matt Kalish, described the financial structure of the organization as unsustainable. He presented the content creators with the choice to become independent or sign deals with HardScope. The creators, who had been in talks for a year, reportedly found the terms offered by Kalish unfavorable, leading to their departure from FaZe Clan. PlaqueBoyMax criticized the lack of control and likened the creators' position to being puppets, while FaZe co-founder FaZe Banks distanced himself from the situation and wished the former members well.
Despite the challenges faced by the former FaZe Clan members, Jason expressed a willingness to explore new opportunities in the future. While he ruled out joining another content organization immediately, he didn't dismiss the idea of starting his own organization down the line. The mass exodus from FaZe Clan marked a significant turning point for the creators involved, prompting them to reassess their professional paths and seek new avenues for growth and success.
