Martin Scorsese Joins Star Wars: The Mandalorian Director Jon Favreau in Upcoming Film

Jon Favreau, the director of The Mandalorian and Grogu, recently discussed the casting of renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese in an upcoming Star Wars movie. Favreau revealed that Scorsese's character in the series, a fry cook, shares a connection with his character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Rio Durant. Both characters are Ardennians, and Favreau even gave them the same last name, hinting at a familial link.
Favreau expressed his admiration for Scorsese, mentioning their collaboration in The Wolf of Wall Street and joint participation in film festival Q&A sessions. He credited former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy for facilitating Scorsese's involvement in the project, highlighting her strong producer skills.
Scorsese's improvisational skills on set impressed Favreau, who noted that the actor's performance was captured and later animated by CG animators. Favreau praised Scorsese's comedic contributions to The Mandalorian and Grogu, describing them as some of the film's funniest moments that seamlessly fit into the Star Wars universe.
The highly anticipated movie is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Favreau, along with Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, co-wrote the script for the film. The collaboration between Favreau and Scorsese promises an exciting addition to the Star Wars franchise, blending the talents of two accomplished filmmakers.
