Seeking Justice: Updates on the Murder of Ellis Cox in Liverpool

A teenager has been taken into custody upon his return to Liverpool John Lennon Airport from Spain in connection with the murder of Ellis Cox. The 19-year-old from Maghull was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being questioned by detectives. This latest arrest brings the total number of individuals arrested to seven, with the six previously detained individuals remaining on conditional bail pending further investigations.
Ellis Cox, who was 19 years old at the time, was fatally shot on June 23, 2024, at the Liver Industrial Estate. Merseyside Police continues its investigation to identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible for his murder. Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, leading the investigation, emphasized the team's unwavering commitment to seeking justice for Ellis' family, urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the inquiries.
The incident occurred when Ellis and four others were approached by one to three men on electric bikes, resulting in Ellis being shot in the back as he attempted to flee on his pedal bike. Despite having no involvement in criminal activities, Ellis was tragically caught in the crossfire due to his associates' connections to street-level drug dealing in the area. His family has appealed for individuals withholding crucial information about his death to break their silence and help bring his killers to justice.
Described as a beloved son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, grandson, and friend, Ellis was known for his loyalty and love for outdoor activities such as fishing, quad biking, and camping. His family fondly remembered him as someone who cherished life, had big aspirations to explore the world, and had a deep connection with people.
