Reviving the Thrills: Turkish Grand Prix Returns to Istanbul Park in 2027

The Turkish Grand Prix is set to make a comeback to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027 after a six-year absence. The event will take place at the Istanbul Park circuit until at least 2031, where Lewis Hamilton secured his seventh world drivers' title in 2020. Turkey previously hosted a grand prix from 2005 to 2011 and made a brief return in 2020-21 during the Covid-19 pandemic to fill the calendar.

The addition of the Turkish Grand Prix will not lead to an expansion of the F1 calendar beyond 24 races. The event will be integrated as contracts for other races expire or transition to a rotational basis. For instance, the Belgian Grand Prix will host four races in six years between 2026-31. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted the significance of Formula 1 in the country, emphasizing its broad following across all age groups and the passionate fanbase.

President Erdogan expressed his confidence in Turkey's organizational capacity, modern sports and healthcare infrastructure, and the hospitality of the Turkish nation. F1 president Stefano Domenicali expressed excitement about the return to Istanbul, praising the city's cultural significance as a gateway between Europe and Asia. Istanbul's blend of history, tradition, and forward-thinking approach to sport, business, and entertainment makes it an ideal location for the thrilling races.
