Universal Studios Announces Release Date Changes for 'Miami Vice '85' and 'The Mummy' Reboots

Universal Studios has announced changes to the release dates of two highly anticipated reboots. "Miami Vice '85," starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, will now be released on May 19, 2028, replacing the previously scheduled release date for the next installment of "The Mummy," featuring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The new release date for "The Mummy" is now set for Oct. 15, 2027, directed by Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Production for the "Miami Vice" update, directed by Joseph Kosinski of "F1" and "Top Gun: Maverick," will commence later this year. Originally slated for an Aug. 6, 2027 release, the film will be shot for Imax theaters. Universal has filled the August date with an untitled event film and also scheduled a new Blumhouse movie for a wide theatrical release on Oct. 8, 2027.
