Unveiling Scooby-Doo: Origins - Netflix's Reimagined Live-Action Series

Netflix has announced the title of its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series as Scooby-Doo: Origins, along with an update on the production progress. The iconic Scooby-Doo franchise, known for its animated series and films, is now being reimagined by Netflix to introduce the classic characters to a new audience while delving deeper into the origins of the beloved team.

Production for Scooby-Doo: Origins is currently underway in Atlanta, Georgia, as revealed by Netflix. The series will focus on a younger version of Mystery Inc., offering a contemporary perspective on how the group initially came together. Set during their final summer at camp, the story follows Shaggy Rogers and Daphne Blake as they become entangled in a mysterious case involving a lost Great Dane puppy, who is believed to hold the key to solving a supernatural murder.

Joining Shaggy and Daphne in the series are Velma Dinkley and Freddy Jones, as the four teenagers embark on a suspenseful and character-driven investigation that tests their courage and uncovers hidden secrets. The show is expected to maintain the campy spirit that has characterized the Scooby-Doo franchise while delivering a modern twist on the classic tale. Notably, actor Paul Walter Hauser has been added to the cast in an undisclosed role.

Spearheaded by writers and showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, known for their work on popular series like Everything Sucks! and High Fidelity, Scooby-Doo: Origins is produced by Midnight Radio. The project boasts a team of executive producers including Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman from Berlanti Productions, alongside André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrienne Erickson, and director Toby Haynes, who will direct the first episode.

Filming in Atlanta places the series in the company of other successful Netflix projects produced in the city, such as Stranger Things and Sweet Magnolias, solidifying its status as a prominent hub for TV and film production. While an official release date for Scooby-Doo: Origins has not been announced yet, fans can anticipate its premiere in 2027.
