Opry 100 Honors Don Williams: A Tribute to a Country Music Legend

The Grand Ole Opry, in celebration of Opry 100, is honoring the legendary Don Williams on June 10 with a special show titled "Opry 100 Honors Don Williams." The event will feature performances by Opry members Keith Urban, Trisha Yearwood, and others. Williams, who joined the Opry 50 years ago, will be celebrated for his iconic songs like "The Shelter of Your Eyes" and "You're My Best Friend."
A new album titled "Epilogue: The Cellar Tapes" featuring previously unreleased tracks by Don Williams is set to be released on May 29th. These recordings from 1979 to 1984 capture a significant period in Williams' career, including hits like "Good Ole Boys Like Me," "It Must Be Love," and "Tulsa Time."
Keith Urban, who considers Williams a major influence, collaborated with him on the track "Imagine That" in 2012. Trisha Yearwood, another fan of Williams, performed "Maggie's Dream" on a tribute album in 2017. Both artists worked with producer Garth Fundis, who played a key role in shaping Williams' signature sound in the late 1970s and 80s.
The "Opry 100 Honors" series, sponsored by Dan Post, pays tribute to music legends who have left a lasting impact on the Opry. Past honorees include Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, and others. A portion of ticket sales from these shows will support the Opry Trust Fund, which provides financial assistance to country music professionals in need.
