Washington Nationals Secure Extra-Inning Victory Over Chicago White Sox: Nunez's Heroics Lead the Way

The Washington Nationals secured a 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox in a thrilling game that went into extra innings. Nasim Nunez played a pivotal role, driving in four runs, including two crucial runs in the 10th inning. The Nationals took the lead in the 10th inning when James Wood scored on a wild pitch, followed by three more runs, including a walk with the bases loaded and a two-run single by Nunez. Brad Lord closed out the game for the Nationals, allowing only one run in the bottom of the 10th.

Washington's starter, Jake Irvin, delivered a strong performance, allowing just four hits, striking out nine batters, and walking none. Cionel Perez pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win for the Nationals. The victory ended the Nationals' four-game losing streak. On the other side, Noah Schultz pitched six innings for the White Sox, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight batters.

Nunez's two-run single off Schultz in the fourth inning put the Nationals ahead, but the White Sox fought back, scoring two runs in the eighth inning to tie the game. The Nationals' defense shone in the sixth inning, striking out four White Sox hitters after a fielding error by catcher Keibert Ruiz. The game drew a crowd of 35,175, marking one of the largest attendances for the White Sox this season.

In roster moves earlier in the day, the White Sox called up catcher Drew Romo from Triple-A Charlotte and designated catcher Reese McGuire for assignment. Romo's call-up came as McGuire struggled, hitting just .172 in 11 games. The Nationals also made a roster change, recalling Andres Chaparro from Triple-A Rochester and sending down pitcher Riley Cornelio. Chaparro started at first base in Saturday's game.

The series will conclude on Sunday with Nationals left-hander Foster Griffin (3-0, 3.38 ERA) facing off against White Sox right-hander Sean Burke (1-2, 4.43 ERA). The stage is set for an exciting finale to the series between these two competitive teams.
