Creedence Clearwater Revival: Hits and Successes of the 1960s

Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band formed in 1968 by brothers John Fogerty and Tom Fogerty, along with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, debuted with their self-titled album. The album featured the hit single "Suzie Q". However, it was their second album, Bayou Country, released in 1969, that marked their success.

In 1969, Creedence Clearwater Revival released three hit songs, all written by John Fogerty. "Proud Mary" was their first multi-platinum hit, with memorable lyrics like "Big wheel keep on turnin' / Proud Mary keep on burnin' / Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river." Fogerty wrote the song after leaving the Army Reserves, feeling elated and inspired.

"Bad Moon Rising," from their third album Green River, became another major hit for the band. The song's ominous lyrics and catchy tune resonated with audiences, leading to its popularity. Artists like Emmylou Harris and Jerry Lee Lewis have covered the song over the years.

The title track "Green River" was inspired by a river in California that John Fogerty frequented. The song reminisces about the peaceful moments by the river, with lyrics like "Well, take me back down where cool water flow, y'all / Let me remember things I love, Lord." The song's name was derived from Fogerty's favorite childhood soda flavor.

Following the success of "Green River," Creedence Clearwater Revival released "Commotion," another Top 40 single from the album. The band's unique sound and storytelling lyrics captivated audiences, solidifying their place in rock music history.
