Downtown Lafayette Incident: Teenager Arrested for Brandishing Firearm

A teenager from Crowley, Jai’Quan Pierre, was arrested in Downtown Lafayette for brandishing a firearm at a crowd. The incident led to an officer discharging their service weapon, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The altercation began with a loud verbal dispute between two groups, which escalated when Pierre pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the crowd, causing people to flee in fear. The officer took action to address the threat to public safety and arrested Pierre without further incident.
Jai’Quan Pierre was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Negligent Carrying of a Concealed Handgun, and Terrorizing/Menacing. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave as per department protocol pending the investigation results. The Lafayette Police Department is seeking information or video footage of the incident from the public and encourages anyone with relevant details to come forward.
