New York Woman Convicted for Dynamite Attack on Boyfriend: A Shocking Case of Domestic Violence
A woman from New York was convicted for throwing a handmade stick of dynamite at her boyfriend while he was sleeping, resulting in his hand being blown off. Keyonna Waddell, 35, of Deer Park, Long Island, was found guilty of first-degree assault and first-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the incident that occurred in March 2024. The victim had been threatened with dynamite by Waddell multiple times leading up to the incident.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office stated that domestic violence can escalate to deadly levels, emphasizing the seriousness of the case. The altercation between Waddell and her boyfriend took place on March 22, 2024, inside his apartment. Following the argument, the man asked Waddell to leave, and upon returning home, he discovered the explosive device in his bedroom, leading to the tragic incident.
The victim woke up to a hissing sound and a flame in his bedroom, realizing that a stick of dynamite had been thrown into the room. In an attempt to remove the explosive, he suffered severe injuries to his hand before successfully throwing it out of the window. Waddell was seen fleeing the scene as the victim sought medical attention, resulting in the amputation of part of his arm.
Waddell was apprehended the next day and is awaiting sentencing on May 27, facing a potential 25-year prison term. The Suffolk County District Attorney commended the efforts of prosecutors and law enforcement for holding Waddell accountable for her actions and ensuring justice for the victim.
