Django/Zorro: Sony Pictures' Exciting New Movie Mashup Project

Sony Pictures is working on an exciting new project, Django/Zorro, a movie mashup based on a comic book series co-written by Quentin Tarantino and Matt Wagner. The story follows the adventures of Django, a former slave turned bounty hunter, as he teams up with Zorro. Brian Helgeland, known for his work on Mystic River and LA Confidential, has been tapped to write the script for the film.

The comic series, published in 2014, served as a continuation of Django's story from the 2012 film Django Unchained. While Tarantino directed the original film, he will not be directing this one. However, he has given his blessing for the project to move forward at Sony, where he is expected to direct his final film.

Helgeland is currently in the early stages of developing a new story that picks up where the comic series left off. In the comic, Django continues his bounty hunting adventures and forms a bond with Don Diego de la Vega, the original Zorro. The collaboration between Tarantino and Wagner generated interest in a movie adaptation, but progress was slowed down by the pandemic.

With the rights now cleared, Sony is moving forward with Helgeland on board to write the script. Known for his work with strong leading men, Helgeland's past projects include Man on Fire, 42, and Legend. Meanwhile, Tarantino is busy with his debut play, The Popinjay Cavalier, set to premiere in the West End next year, and Brad Pitt reprising his Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood character in The Adventures of Cliff Booth.

Both Helgeland and Tarantino are represented by WME, and Sony Pictures has not provided any further comments on the project. The collaboration between these talented individuals promises an exciting new addition to the world of cinema.
