Enhancing Athletic Facilities at Gibbs High School: Morgan Wallen Foundation Grant Boosts Sports Infrastructure

The Knox County Commission recently approved a resolution to allocate $1.2 million in grant funding from the Morgan Wallen Foundation for the enhancement of athletic facilities at Gibbs High School. The grant will primarily be used to transform the existing baseball field into a modern, multi-use athletic field and to construct a softball hitting and pitching facility on the school campus. The main emphasis of the grant is to install turf on the baseball field and build the hitting/pitching facility, with construction scheduled to commence after the 2025-26 school year pending approval.

The cost breakdown outlined in the documents indicates that the turf installation for the baseball field is estimated at approximately $1,098,200, while the pitching facility is projected to cost $305,667, bringing the total budget for the upgrade project to slightly over $1.4 million. The grant agreement was officially approved by the Knox County Board of Education during a meeting held on March 5.

Morgan Wallen, a renowned country music artist who graduated from Gibbs High School in 2011 and excelled as a pitcher on the baseball team, established the Morgan Wallen Foundation in 2021. The foundation's mission is to support youth music and sports opportunities, as well as provide disaster relief to communities in need. The generous grant from the Morgan Wallen Foundation will significantly enhance the athletic facilities at Gibbs High School, benefiting current and future student-athletes.
