In an interview with Variety, the country star revealed that her grandma wasn't a fan of the line about masturbation in the song. Despite her grandma's disapproval, Musgraves embraced the bold lyric as a personal favorite.
Musgraves explained that her grandma is aware of the meaning behind the lyrics but had not seen the music video for "Dry Spell" at the time of the interview. The singer expressed uncertainty about her grandma's reaction to the video, especially since her grandma had a health scare during the shoot.
During the interview, Musgraves mentioned that her grandma had a medical emergency related to high blood pressure while the video shoot was taking place. Despite the initial concern, Musgraves shared that her grandma is now in better health and doing well.
Regarding her own personal life, Musgraves revealed that the "dry spell" mentioned in the song eventually came to an end after lasting over a year and a half. "Dry Spell" is the lead single from Musgraves' upcoming album Middle of Nowhere, set to be released on May 1.
