Lovesick": Netflix's New Drama Series Starring Claire Danes

Netflix has secured the drama series "Lovesick" created by Sarah Treem, with Claire Danes set to star in a leading role. The streaming platform has ordered the series straight-to-series, with Treem serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Danes will also executive produce the show. The series is based on the Israeli series "The Best Worst Thing" and will be produced by Universal Television and Keshet Studios.

"Lovesick" is described as a romantic epic that follows the intense relationship between two individuals whose lives become intertwined unexpectedly. Claire Danes will play Annika, a renowned breast cancer surgeon who receives her own cancer diagnosis. Her patient, Nate, is a promising politician. The series will explore themes of love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine, and the meaning of life, all while Annika undergoes breast cancer treatment.

Claire Danes previously worked with Netflix on the limited series "The Beast in Me" in 2025, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She is known for her roles in "Homeland," for which she won two Emmy Awards, and "Temple Grandin," for which she won an Emmy and three Golden Globes. Danes is represented by WME, Signpost Management, and Ziffren Brittenham.

Sarah Treem, the creator of "Lovesick," expressed her excitement about working with Claire Danes on this project. Treem is known for co-creating the Showtime series "The Affair" and has worked on shows like "In Treatment" and "House of Cards." She is currently working on the FX limited series "Cry Wolf" and is represented by CAA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

The Israeli series "The Best Worst Thing," created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon, served as the inspiration for "Lovesick." It aired in 2024 and starred Ayelet Zurer and Amos Tamam. Netflix's commitment to "Lovesick" marks a significant opportunity for the creators to delve into complex themes and storytelling.
