MSU Wells Hall Meth Lab Suspect Apprehended: Xin Tong Arrested for Alleged Methamphetamine Lab Operation

A suspect has been apprehended and accused of running a meth lab inside Wells Hall at Michigan State University. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Xin Tong, allegedly caused damage to the building while operating the methamphetamine lab. The MSU Department of Police and Public Safety (DPPS) initiated an investigation following reports of property damage within the building. After identifying Xin Tong as the suspect, police confronted him on April 26. During the confrontation, the suspect was found in possession of various chemicals that are legally available for purchase in retail stores or online, including sodium hydroxide pellets, hydrochloric acid, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, and butane, as reported by DPPS. Subsequently, police arrested Xin Tong based on probable cause, and he was charged with two felonies by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office on April 29. Xin Tong is currently being held in custody on a $500,000 bond. Due to the incident, Wells Hall will remain closed until May 1 as authorities assess the building's safety for occupancy.
