Romanian Man Sentenced for Swatting and Bomb Threats Against U.S. Government Targets
A Romanian man has been sentenced to four years in prison for orchestrating a series of swatting calls and bomb threats against numerous U.S. government targets, including high-ranking officials and law enforcement agencies. Thomasz Szabo, 27, engaged in online harassment activities that posed a significant threat to public officials. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy and threats charges and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington, D.C. Szabo will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
Szabo, along with other individuals, engaged in swatting, a dangerous practice that involves making false threats to prompt emergency police responses at the homes of targets. Szabo's associate, Alan Filion, was also involved in swatting calls and was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the criminal conduct. The coordinated efforts of Szabo, Radovanovic, and Filion targeted numerous government officials, causing disruptions to emergency response systems.
The defendants deliberately targeted individuals from both political parties, demonstrating a lack of allegiance to any specific group.
