Sir Stephen Fry Seeks Damages After Stage Fall at CogX Convention

Sir Stephen Fry has taken legal action against the organizers of a technology conference where he sustained injuries from falling off the stage following his keynote speech at the CogX convention in London. The incident resulted in multiple fractures to his leg, hip, pelvis, and ribs. Seeking damages of up to £100,000, Sir Stephen filed a personal injury claim against CogX Festival Ltd and Blonstein Events Ltd.
During an interview on BBC Radio 2, Sir Stephen recounted the moment he fell off the stage, emphasizing the severity of his injuries and expressing gratitude that he did not sustain spinal or skull injuries. Court documents revealed that the fall occurred as he was exiting the stage backstage area, resulting in a two-meter drop to the concrete floor below. The claim alleges negligence on the part of the defendants for failing to ensure the safety and proper lighting of the stage and backstage area.
In response to the legal action, a spokesperson for CogX Festival Ltd expressed concern for Sir Stephen's well-being and refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Blonstein Events Ltd, also named as a defendant in the claim, stated that they have not been formally notified of the legal action. Company director Sara Blonstein asserted confidence in their defense, denying responsibility for the incident and emphasizing that no court proceedings have been served by Sir Stephen or his representatives.
Representing Sir Stephen in the legal proceedings, lawyer Keith Barrett of Fieldfisher highlighted the necessity of court intervention to determine liability for the injury and associated losses. Despite the unfortunate need for court proceedings, the defendants dispute Sir Stephen's version of events, prompting the legal dispute to establish accountability for the injuries sustained during the CogX Festival.
