Reimagining The Blair Witch Project: A New Chapter in Horror Cinema

Lionsgate is working on a new version of The Blair Witch Project with Dylan Clark directing and Chris Devlin rewriting the script. The original stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams will serve as executive producers, along with the first movie's directing team. The project was announced in 2024 as part of a multi-film deal between Lionsgate and Blumhouse to reimagine horror classics.

The new Blair Witch Project is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the horror classic for a new generation. However, original star Joshua Leonard expressed frustration on Instagram about the lack of involvement of the original team in the new movie. The 1999 movie's production designer, Ben Rock, also voiced disappointment over the situation, suggesting that involving the original creators might be beneficial.

The Blair Witch Project was a low-budget film that became a massive success, grossing $248 million globally. The reboot will be produced by James Wan's Atomic Monster, Jason Blum's Blumhouse, and Roy Lee, with Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath also on board as producers. The film will be overseen by Scott O'Brien and Pavan Kalidindi for Lionsgate, with Steven Schneider serving as an executive producer.

Dylan Clark, who is set to direct the new Blair Witch Project, is also working on a feature adaptation of his horror short Portrait of God. The project has Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele attached as producers. Clark is represented by 3 Arts, UTA, and Ginsburg Daniels. The reboot of The Blair Witch Project is expected to bring a fresh take on the iconic horror film, with the original creative voices involved in the production to honor the legacy of the franchise.
