Spotify Introduces 'Verified by Spotify' Badge for Authentic Artists

Spotify is introducing a new "Verified by Spotify" badge to help listeners easily identify genuine human artists amidst the influx of AI-generated artists and tracks on music streaming platforms. Artists must meet specific criteria to receive the badge, including having a visible presence both on and off the platform and consistent listener engagement over time. The badges will be displayed on artist profiles and in search results, featuring the "Verified by Spotify" text alongside a green checkmark.
At launch, over 99% of actively searched artists will be verified, with a focus on independent artists from various genres, career stages, and regions. Verification will be an ongoing process, and the absence of a badge does not rule out future verification. Spotify aims to prioritize artists with active fan interest and significant contributions to music culture, rather than creators of "functional music" designed for passive listening.
In addition to the verification program, Spotify is introducing a new profile section in beta for all artist profiles, highlighting career milestones, release activity, and touring information. These updates are part of Spotify's efforts to combat low-quality AI-generated content and impersonators on its platform, following the launch of the "Artist Profile Protection" feature that allows artists to review releases before they go live on their profiles.
As Spotify continues to evolve its verification program and artist profile features, the platform aims to build trust and meaningful connections between listeners and artists. These initiatives reflect Spotify's commitment to promoting authentic human artistry and providing users with a transparent view of the music they enjoy.
