Driving Toward a Cure: Recap of DTaC's Annual Fundraiser in Southern California

Drive Toward a Cure (DTaC) recently held its annual fundraiser in Southern California to support Parkinson's disease research and patients. Founded by Deb Pollack, who lost her mother to the disease, DTaC has raised over $1.5 million in the past decade. This year's event, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Neil Diamond's Love at the Greek concert album, featured a tribute band, Neil Forever, led by David Jacobson, who lost his father to Parkinson's. The event, named "Get Me to the Greek," included a raffle, drive days, and a live performance at the Greek Theater.
Participants from various states and even Canada joined the event, showcasing modern supercars and classic Porsches. Lamborghini loaned a Revuelto for the event, attracting attention alongside Ferraris. Big Time Ridez provided rental cars at discounted rates to support the cause. The drive through Azusa Canyon into the Angeles Forest was respectful and family-friendly, emphasizing safety and community.
After a visit to the Petersen Museum, attendees enjoyed a VIP dinner at the Greek Theater before Neil Forever's performance. The band played Neil Diamond's hits, engaging the crowd in singing and dancing. The event concluded with a celebration in the VIP lounge, acknowledging DTaC's efforts in Parkinson's research and patient support.
The following day, participants explored more canyons and visited the Malamut Museum before cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway. The event highlighted the importance of DTaC's assistance fund in emergencies like the Palisades Fire, providing support for Parkinson's patients in need. DTaC's impact extends beyond California, with initiatives like the Hope in Motion blog offering resources for those with early onset Parkinson's.
DTaC cofounder Derek Torry emphasized the significance of early diagnoses in managing Parkinson's symptoms. Torry's personal experience with the disease underscores the importance of diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle in slowing its progression. Cycling and a plant-based diet have been instrumental in Torry's health management, showcasing the positive impact of lifestyle choices in combating Parkinson's disease.
