John Mellencamp: The Songbook - A Celebration of 50 Years of Music and Poetry

John Mellencamp is set to release The Songbook: 50 Years of Song and Poetry on Sept. 29, a 272-page hardcover that showcases his five-decade career. The book includes unpublished photos, handwritten drafts, and personal notes, with a foreword by Stephen King. Spanning every period of his work, readers will find unseen photos and early drafts that reveal the evolution of his songs from inception to completion.

Mellencamp, a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer known for hits like "Jack and Diane" and "Small Town," achieved mainstream success in 1982 with the chart-topping "Jack and Diane." He is also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has received prestigious awards such as the John Steinbeck Award and the Woody Guthrie Award. Additionally, he co-founded Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and Neil Young, with April pre-sales of the book benefiting this organization that supports American family farmers.

The Songbook offers a unique insight into Mellencamp's iconic anthems, combining lyrics with personal photographs, drafts, and notes from the artist himself. To coincide with the book's release, Mellencamp will embark on The Dancing Words Tour: The Greatest Hits, starting on July 10 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and concluding on Aug. 12 in Mountain View, Calif. Produced by Live Nation, the 19-city tour will visit notable venues like the Hollywood Bowl and feature a trailer with actor Sean Penn.
