Uncovering the Dark Truth: Testimony of Abuse at Ponton House in Edinburgh

A former resident of Ponton House in Edinburgh, known as Murphy, testified at the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry that Tam Paton, the ex-manager of the Bay City Rollers, was heavily involved in a paedophile ring in the early 1980s. Murphy described how young boys were groomed at parties held at Paton's house in Edinburgh, where drugs, alcohol, and indecent films were present. Older men would take underage boys to rooms at these parties, and Murphy mentioned that he encountered convicted sex offender John Wilson at Ponton House.
Murphy revealed that he was coerced into finding boys for Paton and felt threatened with violence if he did not comply. He expressed feeling terrified by Paton and believed that Paton used his connections with high-profile individuals to manipulate situations. Murphy also indicated that staff at Ponton House turned a blind eye to the abuse that was happening.
The Ponton Trust, which succeeded the Ponton House Trust, issued a statement condemning the abuse that occurred at Ponton House and apologized to any young person who was subjected to abuse while residing there. The current phase of the inquiry is focusing on the provision of residential care for children in establishments run by local authorities and voluntary providers. The inquiry is ongoing, and further testimonies are expected to shed light on the extent of the abuse that took place during that time.
