Perceptions of Ethics and Honesty in the Federal Government: A Study on Trump's Second Term

A recent study by the Pew Research Center reveals that over half of Americans believe that the level of ethics and honesty in the federal government has decreased since the beginning of President Trump's second term. The survey indicates that 56 percent of U.S. adults perceive a decline in ethics and honesty since January 2025, with a partisan divide evident in the responses. Democrats are more likely to believe in the decline, while Republicans are less inclined to share this view.

The survey also highlights the mixed opinions regarding the Trump administration's integration of the president's name and likeness into various aspects of the federal government. While some Americans find it acceptable to name government buildings after Trump post-presidency, others are opposed to the idea. The study suggests that support for the president and his policies has diminished in recent months, with Trump's job approval rating hitting a low of 34 percent in his second term.

Furthermore, the survey indicates a decrease in approval for Trump's fiscal policies, with his rating on the issue dropping to 30 percent. This decline has put Republicans on the defensive and provided Democrats with an opportunity to focus on cost-of-living and affordability concerns leading up to the November midterms. Despite criticisms, Trump remains optimistic about the economy, assuring seniors in Florida that gas prices will decrease once oil shipments can pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Pew Research poll, conducted among 5,103 U.S. adults, sheds light on the changing perceptions of the Trump administration and its policies. As the political landscape evolves, it is crucial for policymakers to address the concerns of the American public and work towards rebuilding trust and confidence in the government.
