OPAQUE Acquires Advanced Cryptographic AI Technologies from TII: Accelerating Secure AI Deployment

OPAQUE, a Confidential AI company based in San Francisco, California, has acquired advanced cryptographic AI technologies from the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. These technologies enable confidential AI model training using techniques like multi-party computation and fully homomorphic encryption, as well as post-quantum cryptographic protections. With this acquisition, OPAQUE aims to accelerate enterprises' transition from isolated AI experiments to production deployment by up to 5 times faster.
The acquisition, overseen by H.E. Faisal Al Bannai and Ion Stoica, marks the first time that cryptographic AI technologies developed in the UAE have been acquired and deployed at scale by a US-based technology company. This move reflects the UAE's commitment to producing foundational technology that is globally adopted. OPAQUE's platform now offers hardware-attested cryptographic evidence throughout the AI lifecycle, ensuring secure deployment on even the most sensitive and regulated systems and data.
Enterprises often struggle to leverage their sensitive data for AI applications due to the complexity and risks associated with using multiple vendor solutions for different phases of the AI lifecycle. OPAQUE's platform eliminates these gaps by extending confidential AI capabilities across training, fine-tuning, inference, and AI agent execution. The platform provides verifiable guarantees at every stage, supported by post-quantum cryptography to protect against current and future threats.
OPAQUE's architecture ensures that cryptographic enforcement is rooted in hardware, offering customers protection through Trusted Execution Environments and verifiable attestation. This enables the platform to be deployed on sovereign cloud infrastructure worldwide, providing cryptographic proof of data residency and maintaining data control and jurisdictional sovereignty. The acquisition enhances OPAQUE's ability to support Confidential AI workflows across various industries, including financial services, healthcare, government, and enterprise SaaS.
The transaction validates TII and ATRC's strategy of investing in foundational cryptography research and scaling it globally through strategic partnerships. The cryptographic technologies developed in Abu Dhabi will now be deployed across industries worldwide, establishing the UAE as a producer of the cryptographic infrastructure powering trusted AI for the future.
