PlayStation Store Refund Settlement: How PlayStation Users Can Claim Refunds for Video Game Purchases

PlayStation users who have purchased video games on the PlayStation Store may qualify for refunds as Sony is looking to resolve a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that Sony engaged in monopolistic practices that resulted in higher prices for games, according to Saveri Law Firm LLP. Sony has agreed to a settlement of $7.85 million without admitting any wrongdoing, and the court has yet to determine if any laws were violated.
If you bought a video game from a specified list between April 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2023, you may be eligible to participate in the settlement. The list includes popular games like the "Ratchet & Clank Collection," "The Last of Us" chapters one and two, "God of War: Origins Collection," "The Jackbox Party Pack" series, and "Call of Duty: Classic," among others. PlayStation users have three options: take no action, opt out of the settlement, or raise objections to the settlement.
The settlement amount has not been disclosed, and the number of claimants is also unknown. However, plaintiffs estimated that over 4.4 million individuals were part of the class action lawsuit in a 2025 Reuters article. Any remaining funds after attorney fees and other expenses will be distributed to claimants. The final approval of the settlement will be determined by a judge during a hearing scheduled for Oct. 15.
In conclusion, PlayStation users who have purchased certain games from the PlayStation Store within a specific timeframe may have the opportunity to participate in a settlement to potentially receive refunds. The settlement amount, number of claimants, and final approval are pending further legal proceedings.
