Undrafted Free Agent Miles Kitselman Joins Detroit Lions: A Closer Look at the New Tight End Addition

The Detroit Lions made a strategic decision in the 2026 NFL Draft by not selecting a tight end among their seven picks. However, they later signed undrafted free agent Miles Kitselman from the Tennessee Volunteers. Kitselman, a 23-year-old tight end, was highlighted by The Athletic as a player to watch and was compared to Lions head coach Dan Campbell due to his serious approach to run blocking. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 251 pounds, Kitselman began his college career at Alabama before transferring to Tennessee in 2024. Despite being projected as a late-round prospect in some mock drafts, Kitselman's testing results at the scouting combine were not exceptional.
During his media session in Indianapolis, Kitselman emphasized his dual-threat abilities, particularly his pride in the run game. While he showcased solid size and play speed in space, he will need to work on separating underneath and reducing drops, which were a concern in his final collegiate season. The Lions' tight end depth chart also includes Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, Tyler Conklin, Zach Horton, and Thomas Gordon.
