Pittsburgh Pirates Reliever Chris Devenski Suspended for Three Games After Altercation with Cincinnati Reds

Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Chris Devenski has been handed a three-game suspension by Major League Baseball following an incident in a game against the Cincinnati Reds. During the game, Devenski was ejected for throwing at Sal Stewart, leading to the suspension. Pirates manager Don Kelly also received a one-game suspension as a result of the incident. The altercation occurred in the top of the seventh inning with the Pirates holding a significant lead. Stewart called timeout before Devenski's pitch, which seemed to upset the pitcher. Following a pitch that forced Stewart to jump out of the way, he expressed his frustration, leading to the ejection of Devenski by home plate umpire Willie Traynor. If Devenski does not appeal the suspension, it will begin as the Pirates face the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Chris Devenski, a 35-year-old pitcher from Cerritos, CA, is currently in his 11th season in the major leagues and his first with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was an All-Star in 2017 and has previously played for several teams, including the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Diamondbacks, and Houston Astros. Devenski was part of the Astros team that won the World Series in 2017.
