Tesla Cybertruck Rear-Wheel Drive Model Sales Decline Due to Brake Recall

The Tesla Cybertruck rear-wheel drive model has experienced a decline in sales due to a recall related to a brake issue that could lead to the wheels detaching. This recall may have contributed to the lower consumer demand for this particular version of the Cybertruck.

In an effort to offer a more budget-friendly option, Tesla introduced the rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck in 2025 as an alternative to the base all-wheel drive model. However, the recall affected 173 Cybertrucks with 18-inch wheels, where faulty brake rotors could cause the wheel to detach while driving, especially around curves.

The cracking of the wheel studs in the rotor can put stress on the hub assembly, potentially leading to complete failure and the wheel coming off the Cybertruck. Even after repairs, the defect could resurface as service centers used the same rotors, sometimes resulting in the need for replacement due to cracking or unusual brake vibrations reported by consumers.

Owners of the affected Cybertrucks were notified of the recall on April 24, with remedy notification letters expected to be sent out by June 20. Tesla is offering free repairs for the recalled vehicles at local dealerships to address the brake issue and ensure the safety of the Cybertruck owners.
