Arrest of Ashaad Carlisle in Canton Shooting Case: U.S. Marshals Apprehend Suspect in Richard Staats' Death

A 33-year-old man named Ashaad Carlisle, wanted by Canton police for his involvement in a shooting that resulted in the death of Richard Staats in April, has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals. Carlisle was apprehended without incident on Wednesday morning in the 700 block of Greenfield Ave in Canton. He is facing charges related to the shooting incident. The arrest was made following an extensive search by the NOVFTF in the Canton area, with Carlisle being featured as the Fugitive of the Week earlier in the week.

The shooting incident took place on Sunday, April 19, at 3115 Tuscarawas St. West in Canton. Officers responded to a shots-fired report and found Staats with a gunshot wound to the front of his head inside the residence. Despite receiving medical aid and being moved into a recovery position, Staats succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Tuesday, April 21. A witness who called 911 was also present at the scene, and a pellet gun and cell phone were found near the victim in the apartment.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott commended the efforts of the Canton Police Department and the task force in swiftly identifying and apprehending Carlisle.
