Midwest's Hottest Neighborhoods: Affordable Housing with Big-City Amenities

Homebuyers are increasingly looking to the Midwest for affordable housing options that offer big-city amenities at lower prices. According to a recent ranking by Redfin, six of the top 10 hottest neighborhoods this year are located in Midwest suburbs. In Oak Creek, Wisconsin, the median sale price increased by 13% to $381,000 compared to the previous year, with nearly 40% of homes selling above the list price. Similarly, in West Bend, Wisconsin, the median sale price rose by 17% to $350,000, and 45% of homes sold above the list price.

While the Midwest housing market shows strength, two suburbs in the Tampa area claimed the top spots in the ranking. Land O’ Lakes, Florida, was named the hottest neighborhood of 2026, with a 36% increase in home sales year over year and a significant rise in listing views on Redfin.com. These neighborhoods offer a balance of lower cost of living and access to quality schools, shopping, and dining, making them attractive to homebuyers.

Redfin's ranking is based on an analysis of ZIP codes in the 100 most populous metro areas, considering factors such as growth in listing views and competitiveness in the housing market. The data covers the period from January 1 to February 28 and highlights the appeal of suburban living near major cities like Milwaukee, Chicago, and Tampa. Some of the top ZIP codes include those in Milwaukee, Warren, New York, Kansas City, Detroit, and Nassau County.

As affordability remains a key consideration for homebuyers, the Midwest offers a compelling option with its mix of urban amenities and lower housing prices. Whether you're looking for a suburban retreat near a major city or a vibrant community in a growing area, the Midwest's hottest neighborhoods provide a range of choices for prospective buyers.
