Sega's Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for the Yakuza/Like a Dragon and Judgment series, has unveiled its latest action-adventure game. The game is set to launch in winter 2026-2027 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass.
Stranger Than Heaven serves as an origin story for the Tojo Clan, the Tokyo-based crime family associated with Yakuza/Like a Dragon protagonists. The narrative follows Makoto Daito and Yu Shinjo over five decades, from their journey as stowaways to their prominence in Japan's entertainment and criminal realms.
The game's plot unfolds in San Francisco in 1915, where Makoto Daito, of mixed heritage, embarks on a journey to Japan after facing adversity in America. Alongside fellow stowaway Yu Shinjo, they encounter the enigmatic smuggler Orpheus, played by Snoop Dogg. The story progresses as Makoto and Yu navigate life in Japan, with their friendship evolving amidst the yakuza and entertainment industry.
Stranger Than Heaven's settings include Hiroshima, an industrial city where Makoto and Yu join the Iwaki family, and Osaka, where they establish a business in the entertainment district during World War II. The game also features a seaside town post-war and the iconic Tokyo vice district with a retro twist, promising intriguing revelations.
Players can engage in various minigames, including arm wrestling, gambling, and managing performers in nightclubs.
