Regina Pats Welcome Top Prospect Fletcher MacDonald in WHL Draft

The Regina Pats have added new prospects to their system through the annual Western Hockey League draft. This year, the team selected goaltender Fletcher MacDonald with the ninth overall pick, making him the highest-drafted goaltender in Pats' history. MacDonald, a 14-year-old Edmonton native, had impressive stats in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) last season and also helped his team win the 2026 Alberta Cup championship.

In addition to MacDonald, the Pats will have multiple picks in the upcoming rounds of the draft. The team is set to draft twice in the second round and has picks in the third, sixth, ninth, 10th, and 11th rounds. The draft also saw five Saskatchewan-born players selected in the first round, including Regina product Rylan Edwards, who was chosen 18th overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Other Saskatchewan players selected in the first round include Jax Bubnick, Wyatt Bitz, Danny Ramazanov, and Cullen Stephenson. The draft showcases the talent from the region and provides an opportunity for young players to make their mark in the WHL.
