Tony Amatullo, a seasoned television producer known for his work on popular TV series like Fame and Miami Vice, passed away on May 3 in New York City at the age of 76 due to acute myeloid leukemia. Originally from Manhattan, Amatullo began his career in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles after earning a degree in Film, Cinema, and Video Studies. He started as a production assistant and location manager for various commercials, television shows, and films, eventually becoming a respected line and executive producer and a member of the Directors Guild of America.
During his career, Amatullo worked on notable projects such as Steven Spielberg's The Goonies and The Color Purple. He also served as an associate producer on Fame and Miami Vice. His contributions extended to Warner Bros., where he held the position of Vice President of Production and worked on successful series like ER, The West Wing, and Third Watch. Amatullo later focused on supporting independent television and film projects, including the film Two Days in the Valley and the reality series Beverly Hills Pawn, where he served as an executive producer.
His final project, Surviving on LES, released in 2021, showcased his talent as a producer, director, and co-writer. Amatullo is survived by his wife Mariana Amatullo and their sons Nico Amatullo and Leo Amatullo. His legacy in the entertainment industry will be remembered for his dedication and contributions to various successful projects.
